Growing blueberries in Colorado isn’t easy to do with the hot summers and cold winters coupled with the soil composition trying to transplant blueberry plants directly into the ground will likely end in disappointment. A great way to grow happy healthy blueberry plants to enjoy all summer long is by planting them in a container.

I like to make gardening cheap whenever possible so a good tip especially if you are trying out a new crop is to buy plants/ seeds on the discount rack at Home Depot or Lowes. I picked up two blueberry plants the week after mother’s day for 50% off.

I am not a huge fan of most premixed garden soils and usually opt to mix a bag of topsoil and a bag of composted manure with various mineral and perlite additions depending on the plant. This brand has been my tried and true and it helps that they cost less than $4 per bag here in Colorado.

I added this soil acidifier to the bottom of the hole, so it is touching the root ball after I planted the blueberry bush. I have been using these https://a.co/d/fwiEcAY 10 gallon grow bags and they are really affordable and drain great so I never have to worry about root rot.

Blueberries like to stay moist but can’t tolerate constantly soaked roots so put your plants in a sunny location and water daily. In a month or so you can enjoy some gorgeous, sweet blueberries perfect for a snack garden!
